The Pastels

Here is a picture I dug up the other day that I forgot about. The people in the picture are Carl Varney, Foster Bartram, Bill Elliotte(hidden on the drums), and myself on the far end. We didn't have a name yet but eventually became The Pastels. I had only been playing guitar for about 6 months. The occasion was the first time I appeared in public on a stage with a guitar. It was at a talent show at Pikeville College sometime in 1965. We were all students there at the time, except Bill who was still at Pikeville H. S. We didn't have a singer and only played instrumentals. That thrill of being on stage with a guitar was one that I will never forget and was what made me decide that I wanted to keep playing. I still get that thrill today, 45 years later, whenever I get the chance.
